Working with windowsUndo / Redo

Undo a window arrangement

Use Undo and Redo to return to recorded window positions and sizes.

User guidemacOS · Windows

Return to an earlier position

Check the assigned Undo and Redo combinations in Window Management. Return to a window you moved, press Undo, and check that it returns to its recorded previous position.

Use Redo to reapply the arrangement you just undid.

Manual movement and excluded apps

Window movements made with the mouse can also be recorded. If you do not want manual drags for a particular app recorded, check the history-exclusion settings.

Excluding an app from window placement and excluding its manual movements from history serve different purposes.

Example: undo an accidental resize

  1. Select a normal window and apply the Left Half layout.
  2. Move or resize that same window.
  3. With the window active, press its assigned Undo shortcut.
  4. Check the earlier arrangement, then use Redo if you want to reapply the undone change.

A new window operation after Undo replaces the earlier redo branch.

If there is no history to undo

Check that the shortcut is assigned and that the intended window is active. If only manual drags are missing, check Window Management → Excluded Apps → Undo history.

If the recovery notice says manual drag history did not start, use the restart action. Saved settings are not changed.

Usage limits

Free allows two Undo / Redo operations per window. Pro removes this count limit.

To reuse an arrangement of several windows, save a Layout Snapshot.
