Exclude apps from placement or history

Manage apps that should not move separately from apps whose manual movements should not be recorded.

Understand the two lists

ListEffectExample
Window layoutsSkips the app in placement operations such as arrangement, snapping, linked resizing, and snapshots.Protect an app that should not be moved
Undo historyDoes not record that app’s manually moved windows for Undo / Redo.Avoid recording frequent manual movements

History exclusion does not itself disable placement. If only one app will not move, check the window-placement list first.

Add a running app

  1. Open Window Management → Excluded Apps.
  2. Select the window-layout or undo-history list.
  3. Search the running apps in the add-app field.
  4. Select the intended app and add it.
  5. Check that it appears in the selected list.

If an app is missing from suggestions, open it and a normal window first.

Default entries and your own entries

Dismissing a default entry stops applying that default exclusion; restore it to apply it again. Remove a user-created entry to take it out of your own list.

Disabling a default exclusion can make a previously protected app eligible for placement. Confirm that moving it is appropriate. Suggesting an entry submits a proposed improvement; a submitted status does not mean the rule has been adopted for everyone.

Toggle the active app with a shortcut

Assign the active-app placement-exclusion toggle to add or remove the focused app. Undo-history exclusions have their own focused-app toggle.

Leave settings, activate the intended app, and run the shortcut. Check the app name in the result and its list state.

If adding, suggesting, or saving fails

If a notice says the app is already in the list or already suggested, or that requests are limited, check the list and do not submit repeatedly. If a retry time is shown, wait until then.

After a save error, check whether the list actually changed before retrying. Exclusions belong to the current window-management profile; check other profiles separately if you expect the same exclusions there.
